Situated in the grounds of Mount Vernon Hospital, Michael Sobell
House was built in the late 1970's. It was funded by the NSCR (now
Macmillan Fund) with Sir Michael Sobell being one of its main benefactors.
The building was then handed over to the Health Authority for the
benefit of the local community and now has an Inpatient Unit and
Day Care Centre.
Specialist Palliative Care is extended into the community by our
Outreach Team and through out Home Visiting Service provided by
volunteers. If necessary, a brief period of in-patient care for
symptom control, rehabilitation or respite care may be arranged.
The staff at Michael Sobell house aim to ensure that all patients
who are facing a life threatening disease receive the best possible
care to enhance their quality of life.
We also aim to promote the patient's physical and psychological
comfort, respecting their dignity and individuality. The team involve
and support the patient and their carers to help them meet their
emotional, social, physical and spiritual needs.
